Green Ribbon 2019

In July 2019 I completed a 1,000km solo trek across Arctic and Northern Scandinavia.

I started at the Treriksröset (the cairn signifying where Sweden, Norway and Finland meet) and made my way south, following the length of the mountains on the Swedish-Norwegian border.

The expedition was self-supported, solo, and crossed some of Europe's greatest wilderness areas. I carried everything I needed (weighing in at around 25kg) and wild camped most nights. Travelling through such remote areas, I was often going up to four or five days without seeing any other people.

Throughout this expedition I aimed to minimise my environmental footprint to the greatest extent possible, by working with with sustainability-focused organisations, choosing locally sourced food where possible, reducing my plastic waste and leaving no trace in the wilderness. I also opted to travel to my start point using trains and buses rather than taking an internal short-haul flight.

Welcome to Episode 2 of my Green Ribbon Expedition! Over the last week I've trekked almost 140km through some truly beautiful mountain wilderness up here in Arctic Sweden... There have been reindeer, mountains, good company and free delicious food - always a bonus after a long day of hiking!
In this week's vlog update of my Green Ribbon expedition I trek 150km mainly through Padjelanta National Park, I enjoy some incredible views, plenty of rain, introduce you to new trekking pal Sebastian and have a rant about helicopters in national parks (it is me though so it's a very polite rant).
Over the last week and a half I've covered just over 170km, persevering through a lot of grim weather and being ill... I didn't want this vlog to be all doom and gloom (even though I felt pretty down a lot of the time) but equally I felt it was important to give an accurate representation of what big adventures can be like!
I feel like I've had to try and squeeze SO much into this episode... It's been a whirlwind 10 days of trekking: I completed the final section of the Kungsleden and reached Hemavan, during which time I also celebrated my 26th birthday, got very wet feet (again) and had some epic scenery.
Presenting the sixth and final vlog from my expedition! This last stretch was such a mixed bag in terms of emotions, weather and scenery... And editing it up now has brought up plenty of those feelings again! Despite the occasional rant or repeated use of the words "misery" and "miserable" (blame wet feet and bad weather), this really was such an incredible trip.
